The Grapeshot DNA technology is made available as a web service. It is clean and simple to insert inside existing advertising and editorial architectures.

 

Hosted Service

Grapeshot Limited operates the web service on hosted servers, on behalf of a customer, or the ASP software can be installed at the customer’s own location (depends on contractual details and security needs).

 

Multiple methods

The service can be called via a SCRIPT, I-FRAME, OBJECT or IMAGE method. Please consult Grapeshot DNA – API Documentation for more technical details.

 

URL & Cookie ID Parameters

In each case the service expects a URL of the document the user is viewing, and/or a unique number for the user – normally a cookie ID.

 

Static or Dynamic Web Pages

The path address of the Page URL is used by Grapeshot crawlers to visit the URL and determine the Document DNA of the web page. In the case where a web page is dynamically created and there is no absolute URL path, then such pages need real time processing of the page contents (this can be done as a bespoke installation for publishers).

 

Extracting the page’s Document DNA

Grapeshot’s job is to determine the best keywords and categories that define that one web page – the Document DNA.

 

Clever Crawling – Epicentre

Grapeshot has developed proprietary techniques to isolate the meaningful part of a web page. For example many websites have navigational menu options, additional advertising, and other words on the page that are “noise” compared to the actual meaningful article or posting on the page “signal”. This Epicentre feature helps to decipher the correct part of a webpage to be processed, from which the Document DNA is subsequently derived.

Multiple Languages

Grapeshot can anticipate various languages used in web pages on the internet. With proprietary automatic language detection and analysis methods, Grapeshot can extract the Document DNA from pages in English, Chinese, German, Spanish, Russian, Finnish and many other languages.

Scale

Grapeshot has been deployed by one customer alone to analyse over 100million websites. Tight compact code allows for fast processing on generic hardware, providing the economic opportunity to really scale the operation of Grapeshot DNA.
