IBM
IBM inserted Grapeshot as a layer within WebSphere for it’s new Audience Portal – focused on global publishing and media markets.
The problem to solve was that many portal owners reported that they served the same pages to all their users. Every user gets the same experience and the portal is not effective at learning about each consumer user.
IBM signed a Teaming Agreement with Grapeshot in April 2006 to work on embedding Grapeshot more formally as the personalisation layer within the IBM Websphere product range - a new system called "Audience Portal" for media owners and online publishers.
Incisive Media
INCISIVE MEDIA asked Grapeshot to deliver contextual ads, using the ads from their own advertisers'marketing department. They wanted additional revenue alongside existing banner ad campaigns, but wanted a "Google Adsense type service, just without the Google Ads". Instead they wanted to sell the ads themselves.
The Grapeshot Lead Generation Ads have been popular - giving CTRs of 2%, 5% and sometimes 10% - based on the fact that ads get shown only when there is contextual relevance with the article. The overall CTRs of the Grapeshot Lead Generation Ads are at least 10 times the usual banner ad CTR rate.
Incisive Media went live with Grapeshot DNA, before there was any face-to-face meeting: testimony to an integration process that was frictionless. Now Incisive Media has selected other websites for roll-out with Grapeshot DNA, due to the economic success.
Reuters
REUTERS works hard to bring the right information to people first. With the growth of the internet, blogging and material published beyond Reuters own network of correspondents, Reuters Innovation developed a concept for a new information tool. Instead of a search box, Reuters Innovation wanted to present today's news as Heatmaps, as topics of interest, tuned to individual tastes as part of a new personalised Insight product.
The Reuters Innovation team turned to Grapeshot to provide a "more than keyword search" experience for a new set of business users - managers of small businesses that need international news and alerts about the countries and market sectors they trade in.
Reuters has since deployed Grapeshot DNA in other website services, as one department within shares their Grapeshot knowledge with another.
SiftMedia
SIFT MEDIA provide a range of content-management and social networking platforms for a range of business communities.
After just one meeting, Sift Media decided to test out the Grapeshot DNA technology, providing suggestions for downloads of contextually relevant white papers and advertiser documents. The response to the Grapeshot Lead Generation Ads was striking, with a real uplift in CTRs: a rate that was three times higher than Google Adsense.
Sift Media has been pleased with the results and now requested all their sites to be loaded with Grapeshot DNA - it just makes economic and advertising sense.
Verisign
VERISIGN is a major internet infrastructure provider, best known for its security products, and domain name registrations. Grapeshot's ability to link words with other words, using Bayesian inference, is used by Verisign to help domain name registrars like Network Solutions and Go Daddy suggest alternative domain names for consumers to purchase. Grapeshot is used to link "hurricane" to "Katrina": something a look-up dictionary just cannot do in real-time, but Grapeshot can.
After one successful implementation, Verisign moved to further installations of Grapeshot. One project uses Grapeshot to analyse 100 million websites and define the Document DNA for each website. Each of the 100 million websites is categorised to one of 317 categories, automatically, using Grapeshot.
A further Verisign business unit uses Grapeshot to improve the quality of an internet crawl. Using Epicentre methods from Grapeshot, the Grapeshot WordRank algorithms distil the important sub-sections of content to be extracted and piped into RSS feeds supplied by Moreover.com. Verisign use Grapeshot DNA technology across 5 million new articles and blog postings per day.
