Grapeshot combines the power of Cambridge technologists with a commercial team rich in media experience based in Soho, London.

The people at Grapeshot have a commitment to search. Academic work in the field of "Information Retrieval" combined with the practical implementation of delivering corporate and internet search solutions since 1992, make the Grapeshot technologists leaders in their field.

The two Grapeshot co-founders, Dr. Martin Porter and John Snyder, set up the Muscat search software company in 1992, selling it in 1997 with a strong return for investors. Muscat provided search engines to the the BBC, Nokia, NASA, Telegraph, Shell, UK Government, Sun Microsystems and one hundred other corporations.

After 1997 the Muscat team helped to build a new global index of the internet, called WebTop and almost twice the size of Alta-Vista. The co-founders left the business in 2001 and Grapeshot was incorporated in 2002.

Today several Muscat colleagues ("Muscat-eers") have joined the Cambridge and London teams at Grapeshot to provide a rich depth of search experience, with the benefit that many staff have worked together since the mid 1990s. As a result, our technical work is rooted in a strong pedigree in commercial search solutions stretching back to 1992, over seventeen years ago now! Our team has worked through the early internet days and now marshall their combined pedigree of rich search experience to make a difference within online publishing and advertising sectors today.

Our technology strength is combined with a strong sales team which has the proven track record of making new markets. Our Chairman and commercial advisors have shared track record in setting up and growing radio media advertising companies, and monetising large publishing traffic in both traditional print and new online formats.

Our London team is based in Soho, London, at the heart of Europe's largest media and entertainment sector.
